Phuket is like a zoo of Muay Thai gyms. You have everything; a Tiger, a Dragon, an Elephant (Chang), and of course, what zoo would be complete without a Lion. Lion Muay Thai recently changed ownership and the new management has brought in a couple high level coaches to head up an MMA program.
Lion Muay Thai is located near Nai Harn beach, which is one of the most desirable, unspoilt beaches in Phuket. Here is a map to the gym.
Lion Muay Thai has some on-site accommodation available for students equipped with a double bed, internet, cable TV, air conditioning and a safe. The accommodation is sold in packages along with the training but works out to approximately 12,000 baht per month. They also offer a budget package for 13,000 baht per month which includes training fees and a spot in a shared room.
Training Info & Photos
The new management at Lion seem to be sponsoring a lot of high level foreign fighters, which is a good thing since training alongside people who take it seriously can be motivating. According to their schedule, they train 5x per week at Lion instead of the usual 6x per week. The weekends are off days at Lion.
The morning Muay Thai session runs from 8am-10am and the afternoon Muay Thai session runs from 4pm-6pm. In between the Muay Thai, there are MMA sessions (from 11am-12:30pm) and either a “strength & conditioning” or cross-fit session from 3pm-4pm.
The cost for training at Lion is 300 baht per session, 500 baht per day (all classes), 2500 baht per week and 10,000 baht per month. They offer some discounts for longer stays.
