Suwit was the first Muay Thai gym in Phuket and has been in operation for over 25 years now. It’s fully owned by locals and has quite a few Thai fighters who compete on the circuit; both in Phuket and at the major stadiums in Bangkok.
Suwit is located in Chalong; just around the corner and a short ride from Soi Tadied (which is the street where Tiger Muay Thai, Phuket Top Team and Dragon Muay Thai are located). Chalong is now somewhat of a hotbed for Muay Thai gyms catering to foreigners. Here is a map showing how to find the gym.
Suwit has accommodation options for students at surprisingly reasonable prices. The rooms located directly at the gym and 300 meters down the road. The rooms down the road have a pool as well. Suwit offers a training/accommodation package (which includes 2 sessions per day) for either 11,000 baht or 14,500 baht per month (the price difference depends on whether or not you want a room with air conditioning). If you choose the air conditioned room, you will be charged for the electricity you use at the rate of 5 baht per unit (which is most likely the local government rate).
Training Info & Photos
Like the majority of gyms in Thailand, there are 2 training sessions per day for 6 days per week (Sunday is the rest day). As listed on their website, the training sessions at Suwit last for 2 hours each and the regimen that’s followed is dependent on your fitness level.
The run to start things off can range from between 1-10km and that’s followed by skipping, shadow boxing, bag work, pad work (3 rounds) then either some clinching or sparring followed some cool down exercises.
