At the time of this writing, 13 coins gym is home to some of the best Muay Thai fighters in the world. Saenchai Sor Kingstar trains there, as does Sangmanee. Sangmanee is a 15 year old phenom who has captured championship titles at the major Bangkok stadiums (Lumpinee & Rajadamnern) before he has even graduated from high school.
The gym is run by Mr. Coke, who runs a chain of hotels throughout Bangkok and who is extremely passionate about Muay Thai. You can usually find Mr. Coke sitting in one of the many chairs set up ringside watching his fighters as they train.
The 13 coins gym is located about 15 minutes from the Bangkok international airport. There are plenty of restaurants and even a basketball court, running track and fitness center within walking distance (20 minute walk). Here is a map to the gym.
You can either stay on site (13 coins is a resort) or if you want to save money, you can find somewhere to stay nearby. If you exit the facility, walk left and follow the road to the main street, you’ll see an apartment called “A Place” which has quality rooms and reasonable rates.
Alternatively, you can talk to Mr. Coke and negotiate yourself a good deal. Remember, this is Thailand, the price for everything is negotiable.
Training Info & Photos
The training at 13 coins is quite relaxed. You can expect 5 rounds of pad work with a trainer and from then on, everything else is pretty much up to you. If you want to clinch, spar or do conditioning exercises, you can just join in with the Thai fighters. They have 2 sessions per day (morning & afternoon) and they also have an MMA cage and offer grappling.
